The Mermaid of Chances Pond

Today the grown-ups no longer believe in her and neither do the children. She sat on her rock for centuries, combing her long black hair with her golden comb, with her pet protector and companion Toosha a diamond snake swimming near by. She had many treasures which she kept under the rock that she sat on.

In the old days many people climbed the mountain to try and take her treasure, but first they would have had to steal the comb, take it down to the shore and wash it in the sea, but Toosha would always catch up with them and return her comb after scaring them a little all in good fun. Some islanders would come to throw coins in the pond to thank her for keep the spring waters pure.

One day a group of people climbed the mountain the greedy set and the thankful set. The greedy set was in the front. She scared the first set and some fled. The next set of people did not believe there story and continued to the top of the mountain where they spent the night. In the morning she appeared to them taunting them to take the comb she disappeared and watched on for fun. Some threw their coins in and left and those who were left behind attempted to take the comb and failed as the mermaid played with them.

After this event she would visit the village and listen to stories and give the villagers bad dreams. She had done this too much and now something terrible was going to happen on her mountain and no one paid attention to her. She tried to warn them through dreams but no one would take notice. She left a message pointing to her mountain and no one took any care in it. It was too late; because of her antics no one noticed her warnings.

By the next morning it was too late the Pan American jet had crashed into her mountain killing all 30 aboard. In her anger she scattered limbs so no one can find them and she scared the rescuers. Actions she would later regret.

It turned out that after this no one would visit anymore and she could not understand why. She is still as beautiful as ever and un aged and the treasure is still there. She is still waiting.
